The Promise

Paula de Villers, aged 15, (South Africa)

Ten years ago, environment time capsules were buried in England - at Kew Gardens in London and in Ness Gardens in the Wirral. This year, on June 12 and 13, some of the children who attended the original ceremony returned to pledge themselves again to try to make a better world by 2044 when the capsules will be dug up. They contain, among other things, poems by the children, one of which is reproduced here. Other time capsules have been buried around the world, including Mexico, Australia and South Africa.
