2002–2010 Conservation Action Plan for the World's Cetaceans

Compiled by Randall Reeves, Brian D. Smith, Enrique A. Crespo and Giuseppe Notarbartolo di Sciara and the IUCN/SSC Cetacean Specialist Group
£15.00, US$22.50
ISBN 2-8317-0656-4, 2003, Order no. B1157

This latest Action Plan represents a consensus of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Cetacean Specialist Group concerning the status of the world's 86 recognised species of cetaceans (porpoises, whales and dolphins). Of particular concern are new threats that were previously unrecognised, such as global warming, noise pollution and reduced availability of prey all which pose great concern.

The all too familiar dangers of accidental killing in fishing gear and exposure to toxic chemicals remain almost intractable. The Action Plan looks at the threats to their survival and the offers possible solutions. It also contains a thorough review of the status of species and a list of 57 recommended research projects and education initiatives.
